Gadget Review – ASUS ZenFone 4 Max (Pro) Hands-on

ASUS ZenFone 4 Max (Pro) Hands-on Indonesia

Hi guys, I am at the launch of ASUS ZenFone 4 series in Taipei, Taiwan. Coinciding with Indonesia's independence day, which is on August 17, ASUS inaugurated the sixth variant of ZenFone 4. They are ZenFone 4 Max and Max Pro, ZenFone 4 Selfie and Selfie Pro, and the last ones are ZenFone 4 and 4 Pro. This time, we will discuss our first impression of trying out ZenFone 4 Max and Max Pro.

Out of the six ZenFone 4 series, ZenFone 4 Max and Max Pro are the most affordable ones. ASUS designed both of them with similar design with 5.5-Inch and 720p screen and made of metal just like ZenFone 3 Max. However, they are now looking more eye-catching because it comes with dual-camera on the back. In addition, the back part looks neater since there is no fingerprint sensor.

This sensor is moved forward to the chin part, clinging to the square shaped capacitive home button. This button is also accompanied by back and recent apps buttons. The other buttons, namely power button and volume rocker button, are on the right side of the smartphone. Audio jack is on the top side, and microUSB port is on the bottom side.

To place the card, there are 3 dedicated slots on the left side; 2 for SIM cards and 1 for microSD. When held, ZenFone 4 Max and Max Pro give a solid impression because its weight reaches 181 grams. As for the thickness, it just feels right with 0.9 Cm thickness. Yet in it, there is a 5000 mAh battery.

Yes, the battery capacity is the smartphones main selling. With a larger battery capacity than its predecessor, on paper, the ZenFone 4 Max series offers longer durability. As always, the reverse charging feature with 1A power is also available to make it as a powerbank. Regarding the hardware, ASUS is still loyal to the octa-core Snapdragon 430 chipset, a selection between 3 and 4 GB RAM capacity, as well as 32 and 64 GB storage.

At a glance, the specifications are still similar to ZenFone 3 Max. Then, what is the main difference? The camera sector turns out to be the answer. As the most affordable variant of ZenFone 4, ZenFone 4 Max and Max Pro have two main cameras. But, both have different resolutions.

On ZenFone 4 Max, the main camera has 13 MP resolution with OmniVision 13855 f / 2.0 Sensor for normal angle. Another camera can shoot a-120 degree-wide angle. Meanwhile, the front camera has 8 MP resolutions and has a soft light flash. If you want a better camera, you can choose ZenFone 4 Max Pro.

The main camera has 16 MP resolution with OmniVision 16880 f / 2.0 For normal angle. Another one can shoot a-120-degree wide angle. For narcissists, there is a 16 MP selfie camera which features soft light flash. Both ZenFone 4 Max and Max Pro have brought the latest ZenUI, based on Android 7.0, Which will upgrade to Android O.

If everything goes well, ZenFone 4 Max series will be launched in Indonesia on early September with color selectinos of Deepsea Black, Sunlight Gold and Rose Pink..
